Organizations
Everyone has a personal workspace — just you. An organization is a workspace you share with other people: its sites, content and billing belong to the organization, and its members work on them together. This page covers creating one, moving between workspaces, and managing members. For how seats and sharing work inside one, see Collaborators and seats.
Creating an organization
Anyone can create one, from Settings → Organizations → New organization:
- Name — what people see;
- Handle — its address in the app, such as
/@acme-labs. ⚠️ It can't be changed later; - Part of — leave it at None for a top-level organization, or choose an organization you administer to make this a sub-organization. ⚠️ This can't be changed later either.
You become its first member and its administrator, and it opens as soon as it is created.
Moving between workspaces
Your avatar menu (top right) lists your Workspaces: Personal, each organization, and your projects. Pick one to switch. Settings → Organizations lists your personal workspace and your organizations (not projects), with Switch on each. Each row's ⋮ menu also has Edit organization (its name, "Shown wherever the organization appears, and on its invoices."), Manage, and Join for a sub-organization you administer without being in it.
Switching changes the browser tab you are in — an organization's pages have its handle in the address (/@acme-labs/…) — so you can keep two workspaces open in two tabs.
⭐ Each workspace shows its own sites. A site from your personal workspace doesn't appear inside an organization; opening one there asks you to switch.
Members
While you are working in an organization, Settings → Members shows who belongs to it. Its administrators can:
- Invite people: type a handle or an email address for each, then press Invite. There is no role to choose — membership is the same for everyone. Each invitation holds a seat until it is accepted or revoked; with no free seat, an invitation that needs one is refused until you buy one — and an invitation by email always needs one.
- Follow pending invitations: Invited · awaiting acceptance for someone with an account, Waiting to sign up for an email address with no account yet.
- Revoke an invitation that hasn't been accepted (Withdraw, for an address waiting to sign up), freeing its seat.
- Buy seats, from the button in the Members header; a card shows the seats you have and the seats in use.
- Remove a member.
The person invited sees "You've been invited to join …" in the notification bell, with Accept and Decline. Someone without an account gets an email, signs up, and then accepts in the bell — ⚠️ the bell is the only place an invitation can be accepted. See Collaborators and seats.
People in a sub-organization also belong to the organization above it and can reach its content, though Members lists only the people who belong directly.
Leaving an organization
Choose Leave on your own row in Settings → Members, or from Settings → Organizations. Content you create in an organization belongs to the organization. If you leave or are removed, it stays with the organization and you no longer have access to it — nor to anything that was shared with you there. The last administrator can't leave.
An organization can't be deleted from the app.
Storage and billing in an organization
- Storage and translation credits are shared by a top-level organization and all of its sub-organizations, and more is added at the top — see Account and plans.
- Each organization has its own cards and invoices, in its Settings → Payments & invoices — see Billing.
Where to go next
- Projects — a workspace of its own inside an organization, for working with people from outside it.
